MAMAMUSE began as a personal exploration into the psychic tension and pain points of early motherhood. Through expansive self-expression, free-writing, and psychoanalytic methods on self, the project sought to reverse-engineer the sources of internal emotional strain and break through limiting cultural narratives.

What started as an individual inquiry soon evolved into a broader examination of how manmade systems shape female experience across cultures—especially in relation to functional health, identity, and entrepreneurship. Co-led by Technology Executive Lucy Nicholls and Harvard student Daniela Andrade, MAMAMUSE originally launched as a pilot platform for informal discourse at the edge of commerce, economics and female biology.

The project interrogated the structural forces and systemic blindspots behind the algorithmic suppression of content related to female biology and female-lens commerce—forces that stand in stark contrast to the unchecked proliferation of sexually commodified content at the intersection of generative AI, economic incentive, and outdated regulation.

MAMAMUSE navigated a wide intellectual terrain—history, philosophy, economics, ethics, biology, technology, medicine, education, culture, law, religion, and spirituality. Contributors included medical professionals, legal scholars, academics, mothers, mental health experts, entrepreneurs, researchers, policy advocates, advertising and creative leaders.

Though the platform was sunset in September 2024, its influence continues. Lucy integrates insights from the project into both her artistic and commercial work. Daniela was awarded a Fulbright Scholarship by the U.S. and Dutch governments to continue this line of inquiry in the Netherlands, while expanding one of the world’s largest communities of female entrepreneurs through Women Who Venture.

MAMAMUSE was recognized by the UNFPA Equity 2030 Alliance and fostered collaborations with organizations including the FemTech Association Asia and Harvard Undergraduate Women in Entrepreneurship. Many institutions have since taken steps to address the barriers surfaced by the project—though much work remains.
